Reality Crisis

Author: Serena Debegnach
Events, usually in the realm of science fiction, in which the protagonists become aware of a disturbing truth that shakes their experienced reality to the core, causing it to perilously waver. Depending on the circumstances, reality might seem partially or completely altered, artificial, or substituted.

Often presaged by a vague feeling of dissonance, this revelation tends to have traumatic implications for the characters involved, and they will have a difficult time coming to grips with the vast implications of their discovery.

A rather wide range of films might fall into this category. Although some of them are intended to be little more than pure and simple entertainment, the particular nature of this material often constitutes a stimulating opportunity for engaging in ontological/metaphysical reflections on the world around us, and more generally, on the objectivity of reality itself.
