Plot
Arkham, Massachusetts. Not satisfied with the damage he caused at Miskatonic University (see 1985’s “Re-Animator”), Dr. Herbert West continues his insane experiments to re-animate corpses.
More pompous than ever before, the doctor sees himself as a god (“This is no longer about just reanimating the dead. We will create new life!“) and convinces his gullible colleague to transplant the heart of his deceased fiancée into a body made up of randomly purloined parts. Meanwhile, a police officer with an ax to grind investigates the macabre activities of the two scientists in hopes of tripping them up.
The return of Dr. West’s arch-enemy, the eminent Dr. Hill, whose “re-animated” head is plotting revenge, gets thrown into the mix.

Critique
5Five years after the evergreen “Re-Animator” (1985), Brian Yuzna steps up from producer to director and puts together a less-than-perfect sequel.
A blend of zaniness, drama, and horror, this film stands out primarily in the creativity department thanks to the profusion of bizarre visual elements that characterize it (consider Dr. Hill’s flying head with bat wings grafted onto its neck, for example). Unfortunately, as things turn more grotesque and the number of characters on screen becomes excessive, several scenes end up slipping into borderline frenzy, even before we get to the totally chaotic ending.
At its core, the story admittedly pays homage to “The Bride of Frankenstein” (1935), which is obvious right from the movie’s title.
