Plot
Draags are gargantuan humanoid aliens living on the planet Ygam. They’re an intelligent race that keeps another race in slavery, namely the Oms (humans taken from an Earth decimated by nuclear conflict sometime in the remote past). After an Om mother is killed for fun by a Draag, the woman’s orphaned son is adopted by Tiwa, a girl belonging to the dominant race that treats him like a pet animal.
The boy grows up and gets an education by secretly using high-tech devices found in the Draag household. Finally, sick of being a virtual prisoner, he escapes Tiwa’s house and joins a group of wild members of his own race.
His superior education and innate acumen allow him to unify rival human factions and give rise to a revolt against their gigantic oppressors.
It smells of Oms. What vermin!

6Adapted from a sci-fi novel by Stefan Wul, “Le Planète Sauvage” is a unique animated film that manages to bring to life a world that’s as evocative as it is heartbreaking, thanks to the creative originality of Roland Topor’s artwork. A planet dominated by cruelty (sadism even – consider the tree-shaped creature that enjoys killing nearby birds) and by a race of giant humanoids accustomed to treating humans like vermin. Moreover, technology itself, described as a double-edged sword, takes on the role of destructive instrument on several occasions, demonstrated by a continued emphasis on its inherent lethal potential.
Among the most disturbing scenes, we would mention the one where the Draags carry out the “de-humanization” operation.
The optimistic ending is surprising.
