Hercules in the Haunted World

Having completed his umpteenth labor, the valiant Hercules returns home to discover that his beloved Princess Deianira has lost her senses, having fallen victim to a malicious curse.

Behind the plot lurks the amoral King Lyco (whose very name seems to allude to his wolflike ferocity and aggression). Driven by a lust for power, the king secretly schemes to dispose of any legitimate heirs to the throne of Ecalia. Hoping to rid himself once and for all of the meddlesome demigod, Lyco then convinces Hercules that the only way to restore Deianira’s mind is to recover a magical stone from the depths of Hades.

Joined by his friend Theseus and the bumbling Telemachus (these characters seem to have nothing in common with the classical mythological figures beyond their shared names), Hercules sets out on his “mission impossible”. After an initial stop at the forbidden garden of the Hesperides to retrieve the Golden Apple – a magical pass into the underworld – our hero defeats the monstrous Procrustes and reaches the Stygian marsh, successfully obtaining the crucial stone to heal his beloved.

Even so, the return trip will be anything but smooth, thanks to the unforeseen wrath of the god Pluto…
