Plot
Beautiful Virginia spends her evenings reading terrifying novels by mysterious author Malcom Brand, whose books make Stephen King’s seem like “Mother Goose” by comparison.
As she becomes absorbed in the novelist’s literary world, the young woman begins seeing his maniacal characters in real life as well. Specifically, a sort of mad scientist with a disfigured face seems to be on a terror rampage, slaughtering people left and right, cutting off body parts to sew onto himself later. Why? It’s not exactly clear how, but to win Virginia’s heart.
Meanwhile, the police investigate the heinous homicides with little success…

Critique
4.5Forgettable, lightweight, yawn-inducing film from Hungarian director Tibor Takács, who brings to the screen a plot dripping with banal literary references, which at best manages to make one of King’s most well-known novels (“The Dark Half” from the same year) look good by comparison.
The only highlight of the film is the resident psychopath’s effective make-up, but it’s only wasted in a soulless production dominated by mediocrity: sub-par actors, soporific pacing, and weak script, including a tedious ending.
