Plot
For reasons that aren’t entirely clear, the dead are coming back to life, and motivated by cannibalistic impulses, they’re attacking the living. After escaping an attack, the young, feisty Barbara holes up along with a diverse group of people in a country house, and she is prepared to fight tooth and nail.
The situation grows even more tense and precarious due to a series of internal conflicts, mainly caused by the surly, defeatist behavior of the family’s father, Harry Cooper.

Critique
5.5Directed by special effects master Tom Savini, this remake of the Romero cult film of the same name (Romero takes on the role of screenwriter here) proves to be a carefully crafted, professionally made horror film.
The plot follows the original movie’s pretty faithfully, with the exception of two glaring differences: the protagonist’s combative nature (she’s like a trigger-happy Jamie Lee Curtis) and a definitely less biting ending than its predecessor’s (compared to which, this film’s characters are even more stereotypical and testy). Excellent makeup and practical SFX – obviously!
That aside, however, the fact remains that there really was no need to remake George Romero’s classic.
