The Projected Man

A few drops of “science” and an ocean of “fiction” are the raw materials for this poorly directed, and even more poorly acted, minor British movie.

After a wink and a nod to “The Fly” (1958), and somewhat superficially mentioning Einstein’s principle of conservation of mass-energy, the Curteis/Croydon duo decide to focus exclusively on the disputes and machinations brewing inside the research institute. Result: We won’t see so-called scientists this blatantly unprofessional again for a good long time – not until 2009, when Vicenzo Natali’s terrible “Splice” is released.

To top it off, following the hysterical Steiner’s decision to become a human guinea pig in this experiment – another cliché revealing a total lack of ideas – the film takes an uncertain turn down the path of horror with a frenzied Bryant Haliday running around on a crime rampage (did we learn nothing from 1959’s “4D Man“?) and lugging around fainted secretaries, like the Gill-man from the black lagoon.

Contrived love story and waste-of-time sub-plot are the icing on the cake.
