Plot
Strange phenomena are occurring near scientific and military instillations – radar going berserk and other inexplicable malfunctions – and now intelligence agencies around the world are on high alert. These disturbing events are all linked to a mysterious individual who calls himself Bronco, and his mere presence can affect even the most sophisticated security systems. He repeatedly manages to evade the agents chasing him, and he doesn’t hesitate to use his deadly touch to disintegrate those he considers dangerous.
Professor Giorgio Borri lures him into a lab where X-rays reveal that Bronco isn’t human – he’s really a robot from another planet (“They have developed a scientific laboratory of which we could only have the vaguest idea. But owing to their superior scientific and technological knowledge, they have been able to recreate such beings. Either out of a pliable metal or other mysterious substance, they’ve developed a material that appears to function as human epidermis. Out of their seemingly unlimited knowledge, they install an oversized brain into this robot, ready to carry out their orders“).
With his back against the wall, Bronco tries to return to the flying saucer that brought him to Earth, but an electrical discharge reduces him to a mass of smoking metal.
The striking resemblance between our suspect and young Landersen is the key to the entire case.
Critique
5.5An unusual Italian excursion into the science fiction genre, hindered by a lack of funds (nothing new), but enhanced by an original story and decent performances from the actors.
The dangerous android, sent to Earth to pave the way for his makers’ conquest, chooses Italy, or more specifically the outskirts of Rome, as his base of operations. The ones who manage to pin him down are some quintessentially Italian law enforcement officers named Major Michelotti, Captain Carloni, and General Rossi (‘Major Michelotti, institute plan X immediately’; ‘Operator, get me extension 26, Captain Carloni’; ‘May I present General Rossi?’).
