Creature

Umpteenth “Alien” knockoff, filmed with a low budget and even lower imagination, “Creature” is such an awful movie that it makes you want to reevaluate “Inseminoid” (1981). An hour and a half that feels more like a geologic era is how long it takes William Malone to unravel a clumsily derivative plot in which a bunch of dazed, chalky characters wander aimlessly from one compartment to another of a dirigible-spaceship on a mission to Titan.

It’s difficult to find any saving grace in this mess: certainly not the cinematography which is apparently striving for pitch black; not even the special effects, which are sparing and nothing to write home about. The dialogue? Mostly banal, empty, and at times even incoherent. There’s no lack, especially in the first act, of some “healthy” touches of unintentional humor sprinkled here and there (the two idiots in the opening scene, the girl intent on building a hyperspace KFM transmitter…), but in the end, it’s catatonia that prevails.

Among the actors, we would mention the presence of an inexplicably cheerful Klaus Kinski.
