Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama

If you’re looking for a B movie that oozes the 1980s from every frame, then “Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama” might be right up your alley. That is, if you’re willing to gloss over the fact that it’s a poorly directed, worse acted, cheesy, low-brow trash-fest (if it’s any consolation, this flick from David DeCoteau’s embarrassing oeuvre at least avoids displaying studs in thongs).

After a first reel that follows the hackneyed college teen-comedy format to the letter (but a bottom-of-the-barrel teen comedy, like “Joysticks” from 1983), the film takes a welcome turn to horror thanks to the sudden appearance of a naughty demon who pops out of the bowling trophy. The tight budget is unfortunately all too obvious, resulting in a series of truly shoddy special effects (the Uncle Impie doll makes you want to reassess the “Ghoulies”). That, along with a disturbing lack of creativity script-wise, makes everything all the more depressing.

Scream queen Linnea Quigley plays the tough girl, pulling off the incredible feat of making it to the end credits without ever taking her clothes off. But Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer manage to make up for that serious shortcoming. Dribs and drabs of eroticism in an uncommonly anemic background.
