Plot
1959. A couple is making out in a car at the edge of the woods when some sort of meteorite crashes nearby. Spurred by an uncontrollable curiosity, the boy decides to head for the impact site while his girlfriend anxiously waits by the side of the road. Things go really bad for them both: he ends up the victim of ravenous alien parasites similar to leeches, and she’s butchered by a maniac passing by.
Twenty-seven years later, two college students set out to steal a body for a stupid fraternity initiation prank, but instead of the morgue, they find themselves in a secret lab where they pick up the frozen body of a young man… the same one from the prologue who was attacked by the disgusting worms – which are obviously still alive and eager to find new hosts.

Critique
6Fred Dekker wrote, adapted, and made his directorial debut with “Night of the Creeps”, paying affectionate homage to earlier films that skillfully and successfully blended 1950s sci-fi (“The Blob“, “Plan 9 from Outer Space”, etc.) with the body horror subgenre that flourished in the new post-Hays freedom after 1968.
The result is a dynamic and entertaining production in which Roger George’s excellent special effects and Tom Atkins’ energetic performance shine through. The movie is chock-full of references, starting with the title (an obvious play on “Night of the Living Dead”, 1968) and continuing with the characters and places, mostly all named after famous directors who’ve had a major impact on the history of horror and sci-fi movies: Corman, Cronenberg, Carpenter, Landis, Raimi, Hooper, Dante, Romero, De Palma, Cameron… not to mention Gordon the Cat.
